Lygra Gjestegard

About Lygra

Lygra means "The light island", referring to the open cultural landscape and the overview over the two fjords on each side. Here you are far from the big city's "hustle and bustle". A perfect place to find peace and simple pleasures.

The island carries a long history back to the Bronze Age, and in Viking times Lygra was in the center of shipping passage to and from Bergen. The area in and around Lygra Gjestegard has been awarded the UNESCO Prize for the Preservation of Cultural Landscapes.

The guesthouse at Lygra Gjestegard is a completely restored sheriff´s house from 1770, a unique building that is locally known for its charm and warmth. We rent out all year round for everything from business trips, weddings, confirmations, yoga retreats and holiday guests etc.

“Lensmannshuset” has been rebuilt and completely restored for rental purposes, and now contains, among other things, 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a large dining room for 20+ people, kitchen with dining table, living room with fireplace etc. The house location is at the end of a cul de sac, at the far end of the island Lygra (about a 1 hour drive north of Bergen).
